Enlighten Me: Indie book shop returns to Claymont

[audio:http://www.wdde.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/enlightenbetweenbooks.mp3|titles= Indie book shop owner Greg Schauer talks with Delaware Public Media's Karl Malgiero about reopening Between Books.]

For over 30 years Greg Schauer owned and operated Between Books - a haven for comic book readers, tabletop gamers and die-hard fans of science fiction and fantasy literature - in the Town and Country shopping Center in Claymont.

But in May of 2013, the troubled economy and the rise of digital media and online shopping began to take a toll on the neighborhood book shop’s bottom line.

Schauer was forced to close his doors – another casualty of the e-commerce revolution that brought down the Borders chain and an endless stream of independent retailers.

Just over a year and a half later, Schauer, who passed his time writing and editing fiction and promoting for the Arden Concert Gild, is back in the bookstore business.

He's re-launched Between Books a mile north of his old Philadelphia Pike location, with hopes of again becoming a fixture in the community catering to the niche audience he cultivated over the years.

And while the new home is drastically smaller Schauer eagerly anticipates writing his next chapter, inspired by the blank page of his new home.
