The revived Slam Dunk to the Beach high school basketball tournament kicks off Saturday in Lewes.
Several NBA stars, including LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and Dwight Howard played in the high profile sporting event during its initial 13 year run in Delaware.
This year marks the first year that the signature First State high school tournament is back on the calendar since folding in 2003.
Delaware Sports Commission chair Matthew Robinson says the tournament’s legacy and its partnership with sports-marketing firm Position Sports helped draw a top-tier field of teams for its revival.
The first game tips off at noon at Cape Henlopen high school with Henlopen Conference North champs Caesar Rodney playing Lake Clifton High School, owners of three Maryland state championships.
A Delaware matchup follows at 3pm when 2013-2014 State Champion semi finalists Cape Henlopen play Middletown’s St.George’s Tech.
And at 9pm, Sanford meets 2013-2014 Delaware State Champions, Salesianum.
You can find a full tournament schedule at the tourney's website.
