Former Tower Hill headmaster convicted in child porn case

The former headmaster of the elite Tower Hill prep school has been found guilty on child pornography charges.

A judge found the 54-year old Christopher Wheeler guilty on all 25 counts of dealing in child porn. Each count carries a minimum sentence of two years in prison. A sentencing hearing is tentatively set for March 27.

Wheeler was arrested and indicted just over a year ago after his Wilmington home and office were searched by police in October 2013 as part of a Child Predator Task Force investigation. The search turned up multiple images of child pornography on computers and other digital media seized.

He stepped down as headmaster after the search.

He's been held in lieu of $1.5 million cash bail at the Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington since his arrest, but the judge revoked his bail Monday.

Since its start in 2007, the Child Predator Task Force has been responsible for more than 200 convictions and the rescue of more than 120 children from abusive situations.

Tower Hill was founded by members of the du Pont family. Its graduates include DuPont CEO Ellen Kullman, Delaware Senator Chris Coons and television celebrity Dr. Oz.
