The Food Bank of Delaware opened its annual Thanksgiving food and funds drive Wednesday.
Individuals and eligible 501(c)3 organizations in New Castle and Kent counties can pick up meal boxes from Food Bank locations in Newark and Milford, respectively. Sussex County organizations can sign up for Mountaire Farm’s Thanksgiving for Thousands distribution.
Chris Robinson, the Milford branch director for the Food Bank of Delaware, said there are those in need in all of the First State’s counties.
“Hunger is an issue across our state,” he said. “Last year we had over 900,000 visits to the Food Bank of Delaware. It’s something our state struggles with up and down the state.”
Robinson said a drive is especially important during this time of year.
“Especially around Thanksgiving and the Christmas holiday -- those are times that we generally think of folks coming together around a table and sharing a meal, and we want that opportunity to be available for anybody,” he said.
Robinson added that contributions can be made to the Food Bank throughout the year.
The Food Bank of Delaware aims to make 4,000 Thanksgiving meal boxes this holiday season.
