A New Castle County church has settled a lawsuit over its decision to break off from the Presbyterian Church USA, or PC-USA over theological reasons.
According to contributor Jeff Mordock of Delaware Law Weekly, White Clay Creek Presbyterian Church will pay $220,000 to PC-USA for the church building and property.
White Clay Creek is moving its allegiance from PC-USA to A Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians, or ECO.
The shift is over White Clay Creek’s objection to PC-USA allowing gay and lesbian clergy beginning in 2011, which ECO does not support.
Mordock reports the national organization filed the suit in Chancery Court in June 2013, arguing that the property belonged to the faith rather than a specific church.
