The state Democratic Party is picking favorites in one statewide primary this fall, but staying out of another contested race.
The party’s executive committee is endorsing their former executive director Brenda Mayrack for auditor. She faces Wilmington accountant Ken Matlusky for the formal nomination.
Mayrack also serves as a non-voting legal advisor to the executive committee, but was not present at Tuesday’s meeting.
It’s her first leap into politics as a candidate, while Matlusky lost both recent bids for office at the primary level.
But, committee members declined to endorse either Sean Barney or incumbent Treasurer Chip Flowers in what may be the most heated race to watch. In a presss release announcing endorsements, party officials said that "given the Committee’s perception of quality both Democratic State Treasurer candidates possess, the committee failed to reach consensus on the endorsement of either candidate."
Democratic voters head to the polls September 9th to vote in the primary.
The party also announced endorsements for Chris Coons in the race for US Senate, John Carney in the US House race and Lt. Gov. Matt Denn for Attorney General. Those three candidate do not face primary challenges this fall.
