Doors set to open on 95th annual Delaware State Fair this week

The annual Delaware State Fair kicks off this week. The Harrington fairgrounds will open to visitors Thursday morning.

Attendees can expect the usual food and fun, including live music, exhibits and competitions like the 4-H Talent Fair.

The state fair’s Director of Marketing, Danny Aguilar, says there’s also some new features this year, including one he hopes will draw in a different kind of state fair goer.

"We’ve actually created a new beer and wine garden called The Roost that will be open daily from 3 to 11pm showcasing and featuring Delaware craft as well as domestic beers, and Delaware wines from local vineyards" said Aguilar.

The fair also has a mobile app for the first time this year with information on scheduling and tickets and the fairgrounds have been upgraded with a remodeled plaza area and a new poultry and rabbits building.

Aguilar says now organizers have to hope the weather will cooperate during the fair's run through July 26th. He adds they've already been examining the forecasts.

"This year we’re seeing a couple days with some spotty forecasts, but it looks like the temperatures are going to be comfortable," said Aguilar. "It is July, so folks have grown to know at the Delaware State Fair there’ll be humidity.

Aguilar says he expects between 30,000 and 40,000 people a day to visit the fairgrounds in Harrington.
