A Wilmington man says he told DelDOT about a problem with I-495 in April, according to the News Journal.
The report says Charles Allen Junior called 911 and spoke with a DelDOT official on April 15th about the bridge “separating.”
Transportation Secretary Shailen Bhatt says he was unaware of the call and that he’ll further investigate the matter after the bridge is reopened, according to the article.
State transportation officials closed the span Monday after noticing four support columns were as much as two feet out of alignment.
They suspect as much as 50,000 tons of dirt deposited near the columns cracked the bottom of the columns by laterally shifting the earth underneath it.
After three days of continuous monitoring, DelDOT has found no additional, significant movement and the dirt is being removed.
The federal government has promised to foot most of the repair bill, making two million dollars immediately available Thursday.
