DelDOT says Memorial Day weekend was busy on First State highways

Wonderful weather over the Memorial Day weekend meant more people traveling through and around the First State during the holiday.

DelDOT reports over 845,000 cars passed through the state’s three major toll plazas – the Newark plaza on I-95 and the Route 1 tolls at Biddle’s Corner and Dover – between Friday and Monday.

That’s an increase from a year ago when those plazas saw just under 795,000 vehicles.

DelDOT estimates it collected over $1.9 million dollars in tolls during the four day weekend, with 60 percent of those tolls coming from vehicles using E-ZPass.

DelDOT expects to be busy again this weekend with NASCAR in Dover for the first of its two annual race weekend. It says it will have additional lanes open the major toll plazas to help handle the additional volume.
