Amazon adding 500 jobs to Middletown site

Amazon.com is expanding its presence in the First State.

The online retailer announced this week that it will add 500 jobs to its fulfillment center in Middletown, bringing the total to about 2,000.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Amazon said the new jobs are being created to meet customer demand.

Director of the Delaware Economic Development Office Alan Levin says he is optimistic about even more Amazon jobs in the First State down the road.

"They do like the workforce, they do like our location, they do like the access to decision makers. Those are all the things that Delaware has going for it, and the quality of life can’t be beat anywhere else, and they’ve told us that," said Levin "So when you really get down to it I think this is not the end of what Amazon will be doing, I think this is merely the midway point. I think they can be do a heckuva lot more there."

Amazon operates two fulfillment centers in Delaware. The other is in New Castle.
