Delaware DMV unveils online vehicle registration

The Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles has added a new service that allows customer to complete their vehicle registration online.

While customers still need to get their vehicle inspected at a DMV location, they can now complete the registration process from home, work, or a mobile device.

Delaware DMV spokesman Mike Williams says that there are two major benefits to the new online registration.

“It gives the customer the flexibility if they’ve got a tight schedule or if they don’t like to go sit and wait and be called by number, it takes that need away from them," said Williams. "And it frees up the staff in our physical buildings that can serve the customers that are there a little bit more quickly.”

The new service is available to all DMV customers after they create a MyDMV account on the DMV website.

Williams says that companies with fleets of vehicles have already expressed interest in online registration.

“In the past they’ve done their registration by mail in and that takes time and then it takes time to come back," Williams said. "Now they can - in just five minutes - do it on their company computer at their office and completed their registration that way.”

Once registered online with a MyDMV account, the customer can access all online service options like print a driver record, change a vehicle registration address, and sign up for Next of Kin registry.

Customers can still complete their registration by going to a DMV office or through the mail-in registration option.
