Shutdown at Salem nuclear plant blamed on faulty wire

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission says that Wednesday’s automatic shutdown of Unit 1 at the Salem nuclear power plant in New Jersey was due to a faulty wire.

The wire appears to be part of a generator that is in the process of being replaced, the NRC says.

Unit 1 was not back online as of this afternoon. NRC resident inspectors are monitoring the repairs and PSE&G’s evaluation of the shutdown.

Wednesday's shutdown was the third at the Salem plant in a month.
