2014 storm clean-up costs are projected to break records in the First State

This year’s round of winter weather is now expected to take a record-breaking toll on Delaware’s wallet.

DelDOT is projecting that the state will spend about $17,883,800 on storm clean-up by the end of Fiscal Year 2014 on July 31. That would surpass the previous storm spending record set in Fiscal Year 2010 ($17,796,600) by just under $100,000.

Salt and overtime remain the biggest costs. Road crews used 99,862 tons of salt, with a price tag of over $6.5 million dollars. They also racked up over 112 000 thousand hours of overtime, as at cost of nearly $3.4 million.

Fiscal Year 2014 storm spending still has the potential to increase should there be any more major storms before July 31.
