AAA Mid Atlantic is reporting low call volume for roadside assistance during the latest winter storm on Thursday.
Spokesperson Jim Lardear believes this means motorists are heeding advice to stay indoors.
However, Lardear says Friday will likely be a much busier day.
"Typically what happens after an event like this when people will try to return to the roads, AAA’s roadside fleet will see an increased number of calls... asking for service," said Lardear.
AAA’s Mid Atlantic division to receive more than 100 calls for assistance tomorrow in Delaware. Motorists are urged to take extra precaution by driving a little slower and increase following distance when venturing out since road conditions will remain less than optimal.
Lardear adds the auto club’s fleet of operators have gotten used to working a demanding schedule during the seasons persistent snowfall.
"Our roadside crews responded to 220,000 calls in the entire month of January and that’s in our entire service area," said Lardear. "Some days we were topping about 7,200 calls a day looking for roadside service."
The amount of calls received by AAA Mid Atlantic last month broke a record and shattered the previous record by nearly 16,000 calls.
The last time AAA came close to handling that much volume was during the stormy month of December 2010.
