Seaford native Faison eyes future as he preps for another Monster Mile test

The first race of Dover’s latest NASCAR weekend is Friday afternoon and when they drop the green flag a homegrown driver will be among those among behind wheel.

Seaford native C.J. Faison is set to run in the K&N Pro Series East “Drive Sober 150”.

It’s been a good year for the 20-year-old Faison. He notched his first career top 5 in the K&N series at Bristol in March. He’s also driven NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races in Dover and Kentucky. A accident knocked him out of the Dover race in May but he finished 18th at Kentucky in June

Now, Faison says he’s closing in on a full-time ride on the truck circuit for next year.

"This team that we’re talking with and working out a deal with right now will put me up there winning races and in contention for the championship. I’ll be racing for them full-time next year, sponsorship permitting," said Faison. "So, we’re really looking forward to that, crossing our fingers and hoping everything goes through."

In the meantime, Faison makes his third straight appearance in the K&N race in Dover. He finished 7th last fall.

Faison says he and his crew hope their past experience here will help them tame the Monster Mile this time around.

"Now this year we’ve took everything we’ve learned the past two years and put it into one car. So it should make for one heck of a race," said Faison. They always say the third time’s the charm – and that’s what I’m hoping for really."

Qualifying for the K&N Pro Series East “Drive Sober 150” is Friday morning at 10. The race gets underway at 4:45pm following Sprint Cup qualifying at 3:10pm.
