Delaware State University students had a chance to interact with C-Span’s traveling bus outside the King Student Center Wednesday morning.
It was a bit of a "do over" for C-SPAN and DSU.
"We were supposed to be here last year, but because of Hurricane Sandy we had to delay it. So this is kind of a return visit," said C-SPAN's Community Relations Representative Don Hemmig. "C-Span's mission with the bus is to travel around, hit colleges and talk about government issues and Delaware State is a perfect fit."
A number of Del State students were able to participate with C-SPAN's morning show, Washington Journal. Brittany Gittens was among those who asked Representative John Delaney (D-MD) a question about efforts in Congress to avert a federal government shutdown
"I wanted to know how a government shutdown would affect federal assistance given by the government. We are college students and we can see how this might directly affect us. I'm very interested in this topic," said Gittens.
Delaney told Gittens that a shutdown would not impact student loans directly, but would hurt students by leaving some crucial Department of Education programs without their funds.
The C-SPAN bus also visited the University of Delaware campus Wednesday afternoon and is scheduled to stop at Concord and Mount Pleasant high schools in North Wilmington Thursday.
