Delaware gas prices drop slightly last week

First State motorists saw a slight drop in prices at the gas pump over past week.

AAA Mid-Atlantic reports a gallon of regular cost slipped two cents during the last seven days – from $3.57 a week ago to $3.55 Sunday. That nearly offset a three-cent a gallon increase two weeks ago.

The national average also fell two cents last week to $3.57.

AAA Mid-Atlantic officials note prices usually retreat in September due to lower demand and the switch to the less-expensive winter blend – but add several factors could keep that from happening again in 2013. The possibility of U.S. action in Syria combined with other tensions in the Middle East and the potential of hurricane season make a spike in prices possible this month.

Gas in Delaware is now 20 cents cheaper than it was this time last year when drivers were paying $3.75.

Delaware-gas-prices-dot-com reported more than a dozen stations in New Castle County selling a gallon of regular for $3.45 or slightly lower Sunday. But the lowest reported price was in Sussex County -- $3.41 at a station in Bridgeville.
