Record-breaking performances fuel season-opening win for Wesley

Wesley College kicked off its 2013 football season with an impressive victory, downing Widener 33-21 in battle of Division III top 25 squads.

The Wolverines, ranked fifth nationally erased as 21-7 second quarter deficit to roll past the number 20 Pride at Miller Stadium in Dover.

It was a record-breaking night for the Wolverine offense.

Wesley's sophomore quarterback Joe Callahan led the way, throwing for a school record 510 yards and five touchdowns. His 37 completions also set a single game record. The previous record were 476 yards and 32 completions set by Jason Visconti ina 2001 game against Rowan.

Callahan’s favorite target was Steve Koudossou, who shattered Wesley’s single game records for catches and receiving yards with 17 receptions for 266 yards. The previous record for catches in a game was 11 and old mark for yards was 239. He also tied a school record with four TD catches.

The 1-0 Wolverines are back at home again next Saturday, welcoming 16th ranked Salisbury to Dover.
