The Port of Wilmington has received a $10-million federal grant to repair one of its wharfs.
The wharf dates back to 1923 and hosts two general cargo berths at the port.
Diamond State Port Corporation, which owns and operates the facility, will pay the extra three point four million dollars needed for the project.
The state’s Congressional delegation and Governor Jack Markell applaud the grant, touting the port as a critical economic driver in the region.
Other improvements are planned as well.
Earlier this year, state lawmakers allocated $8 million to fund a new crane for the port after a proposed public-private partnership with an outside company fell through.
