The newest addition to Delaware’s gambling line-up is now a little over 6 months old.
KENO debuted in the First State in late January. The bingo-style game picks winning numbers every 4 minutes for about 110 retailers throughout the state. The top prize is 100 thousand dollars for a regular KENO ticket and one million dollars for the KENO bonus game.
State Lottery Director Vernon Kirk says KENO has been “up and down” in its first six months, but on average the state is earning about 100 thousand dollars a week from the game.
“That’s a little lower than we had anticipated but we’re still in the process of kind of an education for our customers and adding retailers and that type of thing," said Kirk "So, we still have expectations that it is a growth product that will grow.”
Kirk notes the state will have a better picture of how KENO is faring this fall once final audited fiscal year 2012 numbers for the game are delivered.
Kirk adds the state is still actively seeking additional venues for KENO. The goal is about 125, but Kirk says it could go higher if demand warrants.
