Elena Delle Donne is headed to the WNBA All-Star game in her first pro season with the Chicago Sky – and she made history in the process.
The former University of Delaware and Ursuline Academy star was not only voted a starter for the Eastern Conference – but receive more all-star votes than any other player. She’s the first rookie in the W-N-B-A’s 11 year history to top the all-star vote.
Delle Donne received 35,646 votes. Los Angeles Sparks forward Candace Parker was next in line but was nearly 2 thousand votes behind Delle Donne with 33,810 votes.
Delle Donne has helped the Sky to 11-4 record that tops the East standings. She’s fourth in the league in scoring with 19 points per game after posting 23 in a 75-55 win over New York Thursday.
The WNBA all-star game is Saturday, July 27, at 3:30 p.m. at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut.
