Univ. of Delaware raises tuition rates

The cost to attend the University of Delaware is going up again, but not as much as in recent years.

The university announced Monday that in-state tuition and mandatory fees for the upcoming 2013-14 academic year will rise 3.7 percent or $430 to $12,112.

That’s the smallest percentage bump in tuition and fees for in-state students since 2003. Last year, in-state tuition and required fees for health services and other student services totaled $11.682.

Out-of-state tuition and fees will jump nearly $1,160, or four percent, to $29,932 thousand dollars.

It’s the lowest percentage increase for out-of–state students since 2005. Last year, out-of-state students paid $28,772.

Graduate student tuition is also rising for the 2013-14 academic year. Grad students will pay $1,578 per credit hour. That's up an 4.25 percent or $65 per credit hour.

School officials cite rising financial aid costs, employee salaries and benefits, and operations support as the reasons the tuition increase is needed.
