Final 2012 First State crops estimates paint more positive picture

Despite dry conditions and Hurricane Sandy, Delaware crops fared better than expected in 2012.

Final crop production estimates for the year show farmers planted less corn, but harvested an average of five bushels more per acre than 2011.

Soybean production also closed up on the year.

Farmers harvested an extra three bushels an acre from the same amount of land tended by farmers two years ago.

Corn production for the US plummeted by 13 percent, but soybean levels only fell by three percent.
