Artists in Kent County are clamoring for exhibit space in the area’s newest art gallery.
Kent County Tourism launched the ‘Best of Kent County’ gallery last week to get local artists additional exposure.

Public Relations Director Lorrraine Dion says this endeavor is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the area’s talent.
“We have so many artists in the Milford and the Dover area, little mini art districts going on in Smyrna. We have lots of neat studios and this gets their name out there and the recognition that, perhaps, Kent County hasn’t received in a while,” said Dion.
Executive Director Cindy Small says paintings and displays by six artists dot the walls, but interest has quickly spread and the display will grow to accommodate more artists.
“Starting next week, a seventh artist will join us and we also know that some other artists from the Milford area are going to be coming on board. So we’re actually painting and styling another wall so that we’ll be able to expand,” said Small.
The tourism office takes a 20 percent commission, but Small says that’s about half of what other galleries in the area charge.
Small says it’s all part of an effort to remind people that they don’t have to leave the county to find great local artists.
Viewing hours are from 8:30 to 4:30, Monday through Friday.
