The Justice Department is holding a press conference about the wave of suspicious packages that have been sent to political enemies of President Trump this week.
A suspect has been arrested. A federal law enforcement official confirms to NPR that the man arrested on Friday in connection with the wave of suspicious packages that targeted enemies of President Trump is Cesar Sayoc, 56, of Davie, Fla.
Sayoc has a criminal record, according to public records, and has lived in South Florida for several years.
President Trump hailed the arrest in a statement at the White House on Friday morning and said Americans must reject the threat of force as part of political culture in the United States.
“These terrorizing acts are despicable and have no place in our country,” Trump said. “We must never allow political violence to take root in America. We cannot let it happen. I’m committed to doing everything in my power to stop it and stop it now.”
So far, 13 packages addressed to 11 people have been discovered. Two intended for former Vice President Joe Biden were recovered in Delaware at Lancaster Ave. postal facility in Wilmington, and the other at the Hares Corner U.S. Postal Service processing and distribution hub on Quigley Blvd. in New Castle.
