VW settlement to affect 1,700 Delaware residents

As many as 1,700 Delaware residents could be affected by the record 14.7 billion dollar settlement between Volkswagen and the U.S. Department of Justice over VW’s emissions cheating.

Delaware Attorney General Matt Denn says the settlement will benefit owners and lessees of certain 2.0-liter diesel Volkswagens from model years 2009 – 2015.  They will receive no less than 5,100 dollars restitution. They’ll also be eligible to sell their vehicles back to VW or end their lease early, or choose instead to receive an emissions reduction fix.

Additionally, Volkswagen will pay states like Delaware $1,000 per car for repeated violations of state consumer protection laws and the First State is eligible for over $9 million from Volkswagen for environmental mitigation efforts here.

Volkswagen is also committed to investing $2 billion over the next 10 years for the development of non-polluting cars, or Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEV).
