People’s Festival line-up to feature Ky-Mani Marley

Organizers of a Wilmington music festival created to honor the legacy of late reggae musician Bob Marley released its lineup Thursday.

The son of legendary reggae musician Bob Marley will be performing at the 22nd annual People’s Festival in Wilmington this summer.

Ky-Mani Marley will be joined by New Orleans funk rockers Dumstaphunk, Argentinean hip-hop artist Alika and at least four Delaware-based musicians.

GennyPitts is the co-founder of the festival. She says she works hard to create a lineup that reflects the messages found in Bob Marley’s music.

“It’s got to be positive uplifting and of course, enjoyable. The rhythm has to move you but the message has to call you to action,” said Pitts.

Bob Marley lived in Wilmington in the late 1960’s. Pitts’ husband, and festival co-founder, was friends with him.

“[Marley's] mother lived in Wilmington for a quite a few years and Bob bought a home right next to hers on Tatnall Street back in 1968-69,” said Pitts.

Pitts says the festival is family friendly. The music and food are chosen to celebrate international diversity.

The one-day festival is at the Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park in Wilmington on July 30.
