Opera Delaware executive wins national award

Opera Delaware
Opera America will pay tribute to the 2016 honorees In New York City next month.

A Delawarean is among therecipients of the 2016 National Opera Trustee Recognition Awards.

Cynthia du Pont Tobias is vice president of the board at Opera Delaware. She also serves on the Executive Finance and Artistic Committees.

Now in its ninth year, the awards honor outstanding trustees of U.S. opera companies for their leadership and audience-building efforts on behalf of their respective opera companies.

Tobias played an integral role in the turnaround story of Opera Delaware. She helped to guide the company through a restructuring that led to the launch of a spring opera festival, now entering its second year.

She also helped secure the largest single capital gift that Opera Delaware  received in its 71-year history. The $450,000 grant made it possible for the Wilmington arts organization to return to the Grand Opera House in May with Verdi’s “Falstaff” and the East Coast premiere of the lost opera “Amleto.”
