Wesley College announces new opportunities for community college students

Wesley College announced Wednesday that it is expanding its partnership with Delaware Tech that assists students at the community college seeking to earn four-year college degrees.

The renewed articulation agreement between the schools will allow Del Tech students to continue their studies at Wesley College in more programs, including elementary education and criminal justice. Wesley says the schools are also in discussions to add environmental science to its offerings to Del Tech students down the road.

Frances Riddle, special projects coordinator for Wesley, says the expanded articulation program allows even more Del Tech students to complete four-year degrees in a cost effective way.

“It’s a great opportunity since we’re the only small, private liberal arts college in the state,” she says. “It creates an interesting opportunity for Del Tech students to start out in a public institution and be able to switch to a four year institution and get that small liberal arts experience for a lot less money.”

Wesley says it is also in talks to expand its articulation program with Chesapeake College and Wor-Wic Community College in Maryland.

Riddle says while the details of the agreements aren’t completely fleshed out, she is optimistic they will be finalized soon.

“We’re talking about what makes sense from their point of view and they think makes sense for their students, but we’re just a little bit behind in those conversations,” she says. “But we’re still shooting to get some connected degree programs up by the fall.”

Wesley College says the opportunity to expand its partnerships with local community colleges are made possible with the school’s new core curriculum.
