A multi-state search and Amber Alerts for a 3-year-old New Castle girl have been canceled after she was found safe in Massachusetts.
New Castle County Police say Elinor Trotta's father Michael Trotta was taken into custody at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot of an apartment building in Spencer, Massachusetts. Police say Dawn Barkus, the girl's mother, will fly to the state with law enforcement officials as soon as possible to be reunited with her child.
Michael Trotta will be charged with reckless endangering, carjacking and endangering the welfare of a child, according to New Castle County police. Those charges are in addition to an outstanding warrant issued on February 15 for assaulting Barkus. Police say Trotta is awaiting extradition back to Delaware.
Amber Alerts were issued in at least three states after Elinor Trotta was taken from her New Castle home by her father shortly before 7 p.m. Monday night.
