More than 90 First State artists applied for the Delaware Division of the Arts 2015 Fellowship Awards and musician Kimberly Reighley of Wilmington was named the Masters Fellow.

The flute player was awarded a $10,000 grant. Other awards ranged from $3000, to $6000.

Reighley plays principal flute with the Delaware Symphony and Opera Delaware, and baroque and modern flute with her chamber music ensemble, Melomanie.

“That’s one of the beauties of being a freelance musician, you get the opportunity to perform in all mediums, so performing with the Delaware Symphony and having the opportunity to do more chamber music performances with Melomanie in addition to opera, ballet and even Broadway shows,” said Reighly.

But Reighley adds her work with Melomanie is especially fulfilling.

“Our mission is to present concerts that feature provocative pairings of music from the baroque era primarily, so music of the 18th century performed on period instruments and we also perform contemporary works," said Reighley. "Many of these contemporary works have been written specifically for us."

The group was founded in 1993 and released their 3rd CD, “Excursions” last September.

It will perform Sunday, February 1 the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts in Wilmington.

This piece is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
