A Delaware filmmaker will premiere his new documentary in the First State this weekend.
Joseph Piner spent three years out west chronicling the fate of America’s wild horses for the film, “Free Spirits- Saving America’s Wild Horses.” The Newark native contends that mustangs are being rounded up and taken off public lands. He’s hoping his film will help raise awareness about their plight.
“The American mustang is an American icon and if you think about it, it’s as much of an icon as the Bald Eagle," said Piner. "We built this country on the backs of these horses. We fought the wars with these horses. Just the pure will to survive made me want to pursue this film.”
Piner’s film plays the Everett Theater in downtown Middletown this Friday and Saturday at 7pm.
This piece is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
