Delaware State got the better of Delaware in this year’s edition of their First State hoop rivalry.
The Hornets led from start to finish in a 66-53 victory over the Blue Hens at Carpenter Center in Newark.
Kendell Gray posted a career-high 21 points and 12 rebounds to lead DSU, which improved to 4-4 this season.
“We expect a lot from Kendall and he came through in a big way today,” said Hornet head coach Keith Walker. “His performance, along with the defensive effort by the entire team, were keys to the win.”
UD remains winless with the loss – falling to 0-7 to start the season.
DSU has won two of the last three meetings between the state’s two Division I hoop program, but still trails in the all-time series 11-4. The road team has won each of the last four games in the series.
