UD football signs deals to play at ACC schools

University of Delaware football fans will get to know the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) much better over the next few seasons.

UD has finalized deals to step up and play five ACC schools on the road between 2015 and 2020.

The Blue Hens will visit North Carolina next September, Wake Forest in 2016, Virginia Tech in 2017, Pittsburgh in 2019, and North Carolina State in 2020.

“It is exciting for us to have the opportunity to play some of the nation’s top football programs on our schedule year in and year out,” said UD Athletic Director Eric Ziady in a statement. “Playing schools from the ACC gives our student-athletes the chance to compete against some of the top teams in the country and I?know our fans will be excited to see these opponents on the schedule and to visit some outstanding venues to cheer on the Blue Hens.”

The Hens play a notch below the ACC in NCAA’s Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), while ACC teams compete at the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) level

Delaware, which opened pre-season camp this week, will kick-off this season against Pittsburgh and school officials say they are actively seeking an?FBS?opponent for the 2018 season.

Since the 2003 season, the Blue Hens have played seven games against FBS?opponents, facing Navy six times and Maryland once.
