Nemours/ Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington has been recognized as one of the top pediatric health systems in the nation.
U.S News & World Report released its latest ratings of the best children’s hospitals in the country Tuesday and for the first time, A.I duPont was ranked in all ten specialties reviewed.
That distinction was awarded to only twenty hospitals in the entire country.
In 2013, the hospital made the cut in eight specialties.
A.I duPont’s highest rating was in in the area of orthopedics. U.S News & World Report rated the institution the sixth best in the country and gave the department a “superior” score in several categories including “use of advanced technologies,” “ratio of nurses to patients,” and “steps to engage families in medical care.
The hospital also ranked 46th in the Cancer care category, 39th in both Cardiology & Heart Surgery and Neonatology, 23rd in Diabetes & Endocrinology, 36th in Gastroenterology, 38th in Nephrology, 41st in Neurology & Neurosurgery, 40th in Pulmonology and 43rd in Urology.
The hospital is currently undergoing a 450,000 square foot expansion, slated to open this fall.
