Rep. John Atkins (D-Millsboro) has been ordered to stay away from his wife and two sons after she filed for a protective order according to the News Journal.
The report says Heather Atkins alleges her husband of harassing her over the phone after she moved out April 22 and claims his behavior has become erratic and temperamental.
Rep. Atkins handed over 17 firearms to Millsboro police officers Monday evening per a court order, according to the News Journal.
In a statement through a spokesperson, Atkins says the court documents are one-sided with “only one person giving their perspective on an issue.”
It continues, saying “this is a deeply personal and private matter involving my family” and for everyone to respect his family’s privacy until the situation is resolved in court.
A hearing on the matter is scheduled June 13th in Family Court.
