Newark voters deliver wins for Chapman, Markum and Ruckle in City Council races

Voters in Newark have spoken in three City Council races.

Incumbents Luke Chapman and Stu Markham won reelection in the 5th and 6th Districts Tuesday. Chapman defeated Shirley W.B. Wilson by a 346 to 117 vote margin, while Markham fended off a challenge from M. Howland Redding. The vote in that race was 250-155.

In the special election for the 2nd District seat, Todd Ruckle emerged victorious in a three-way race with Sharon Hughes and C. Haig Stubblebine. Ruckel received 134 votes while Hughes picked up 84 and Stubblebine 17. Ruckle will replace veteran Councilman Jerry Clifton, who gave up the seat for health reasons.

Robert Gifford ran unopposed in the 3rd District and was declared the winner.
