Democrat Claire Snyder-Hall officially filed Tuesday morning to run for Delaware’s 6th State Senate seat in 2014.
The former political science professor and chair for the Democratic Party in the Rehoboth area will face off against incumbent Republican Ernie Lopez in November. Lopez defeated Democrat Andy Staton for the seat newly created by redistricting in 2012.
Snyder-Hall says she would have liked to see Senator Lopez be more proactive in his first term representing the new district.
"I’m surprised he hasn’t done more in his first term," Snyder-Hall said. "Usually people are very energized to get things done, and I don’t really see what he’s done."
Snyder-Hall says that her top priority if elected would be to bring year-round jobs to Sussex County. She also says she will focus on issues involving education and senior care, along with coordinated development of that area of the state.
She adds that she feels she also brings a unique strength to the race.
"There seems to be a lot of energy around women’s leadership in this county, getting more women into leadership positions," she said. "And that’s also something I bring to the table."
Snyder-Hall announced her intention to run last summer, and says she has spent months since then meeting with community leaders and knocking on doors to meet voters.
