A University of Delaware football star is getting a chance to show he’s ready to play at the next level.
Senior defensive tackle Zach Kerr has been invited to take part in the East-West Shrine All-Star Game later this month.
Kerr - second-year transfer from Maryland – is only the fifth Blue Hen ever to get an invite to the East-West game -- and the first since quarterback Pat Devlin in 2010.
The 6-2, 310 pound lineman will be looking to impress at a game known for sending players to the NFL and other pro leagues.
Over 100 players who participated in last year’s contest signed a pro contact somewhere.
Kerr was a co-captain on last fall’s UD squad that when 7-5 under first year head coach Dave Brock. He rang up 57 tackles, 3 and a half sacks and two forced fumbles for the Hens in his final season.
The East-West Shrine game is scheduled for Saturday, January 18th at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. It’s a 4 pm kick-off.
