Delaware farmers eligible for disaster relief from rainfall damage

Delaware farmers are eligible for federal disaster relief funds due to heavy rains over the summer months.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has designated both Kent and Sussex counties primary natural disaster areas due to “excessive” rainfall between May and September of this year.

New Castle County also is eligible for relief because it is contiguous to the designated disaster areas

Farmers in those areas have eight months to apply for loans to help cover the cost of any potential damages.

The USDA’s Farm Service Agency examines each application on a case-by-case basis. Interested farmers can contact their local USDA Service Center for more information, or visit the USDA's website.
