Kent County unveils new website

Kent County officials debuted their new website Monday.

The goal is a more user-friendly site that will include an “alerts” selection at the top of each page that will present emergency news– ranging from weather alerts to meeting cancellations in real-time.

“We searched for user friendly formats and developed ours based upon award winning websites,” said Kent County Levy Court Information Technology Director Kim Crouch

One of the biggest changes is an update to the county’s Geographic Information System or GIS.

Users will be able to distinguish between wetlands, ownership data, zoning designation and other mapping information in the program.

“Our goal is to provide the best resources to assist the public in obtaining any information required on the GIS side,” said Danielle Lamborn, specialist in the Kent County Geographic Information Systems Division.

Training sessions for the GIS overlay will be available in early August.

County residents can also apply for building permits, dog licensing and search a complete Home Owners Association directory online.
