The Delaware Symphony Orchestra announced its 2013-2014 season schedule Thursday.
Each performance in the DSO’s 4-concert Classics Series will feature a variety of classical pieces including the work by Rachmaninoff, Mozart, Beethoven, and Mendelssohn.
Wilmington’s Grand Opera House will host the opening and closing Classics Series performances. The other two concerts will be at the Archmere Performing Arts Center and Tatnall’s Laird Performing Arts Center
The schedule's 4-concert Chamber Series hosted at Wilmington’s Hotel du Pont with an encore performance of January 28th concert in a non-subscription event at Wilmington's Queen Theatre on January 31st.
The orchestra is also schedule to perform on New Year's Eve at the Grand.
The schedule announcement comes on the heels of the DSO and its musicians ending their contractual stalemate with a 3-year deal. DSO musical director David Amado says the new contract provides a fresh start.
“I think everyone has a real sense of relief that there is now an agreement between the union and the association," said Amado. "I think that that relief is bolstered further by a season which is larger and is weightier than the season we had last year.”
The DSO’s previous orchestra season was abbreviated due to contractual issues. Amado says that the extra time provided by this year’s full season will be a welcome luxury.
It’s a more exciting season in every respect," said Amado. "We have time to market it, we have time to think about it and talk about it, and we have time to plan, which gives us an opportunity to, as an orchestra, really grow over the course of the season. I’m looking forward to having that expanse of time in which we can allow this season to blossom."
The first performance will take place on Friday, September 27th at the Grand Opera House. Tickets are available through the Grand Opera House Box Office.
