Fans produced an overwhelming demand for the Firefly Music Festival tickets. Festival organizers say this year’s event eclipsed 2012's total sales within an hour of going tickets going on sale Thursday.
The events organizers are not disclosing the actual number of tickets sold, but note camping tickets and front row passes are nearly sold out, while premium spots and RV spaces are limited.
There were some issues for those ordering online Thursday. Organizers say what’s being called a "load balance" issue bottle necked sales for nearly two hours before ticket vendor Amazon corrected it.
Angry fans on Facebook and Twitter lashed out over the technical difficulty, while also crying foul of online scalping.
Festival reps say there was not much that they could do about scalping and pointed out that many of those 3rd party sales may have been purchased during the previous pre-sale last July.
About 30,000 people attended the 2012 Festival in its first year in Dover. Officials are expecting to perhaps triple that number this summer.
