Bayhealth has identified the pilot who died in a plane crash Sunday night east of Dover.
According the hospital, Orthopedic surgeon Clifford Turen was the plane’s sole occupant when it disappeared from radar around 7:10 p.m.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash site located a few hundred yards away from Chandelle Estates Airport.
FAA spokesperson Holly Baker says members of the Little Creek Volunteer Fire Company located the wreckage shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday.
“The aircraft which was a Piper PA28 was located east of Dover off Route 9 around White Oak Road. The aircraft had crashed in a wooded brush area in a farm field,” said Baker.
Baker says it is too soon to know whether fog, which shrouded the area last night, may have played a role in the crash.
According to Bayhealth, Turen began working at the hospital in 2011. He previously served as director of the Georgia Orthopedic Trauma Institute.
