Nation's best shine at Beast of the East H.S. wrestling tourney

There were few surprises in the 20th annual “Beast of the East” high school wrestling tournament over the weekend in Newark.

The schools ranked one and two in the nation by InterMat finished in that same order in the final team standings.

Top-ranked Blair Academy of New Jersey won with 305 points. Number two Wyoming Seminary of Pennsylvania was a distant second with 157 points.

The top Delaware school in the team rankings was Smyrna – which was 27th out of 102 schools. Smyrna’s Brent Fleetwood was the lone First State wrestler to take home an individual title, winning at 113 pounds. Fleetwood entered the tourney ranked 5th in the nation in his weight class.
