Blue Rocks roster in place for new season

The Wilmington Blue Rocks’ Opening Day roster is set.

There will be plenty of familiar faces in the dugout when the Rocks kick-off their 2016 season Thursday night.

12 of the 26 players starting the season with Wilmington spent some time with the team last season when it reached the Carolina League Mills Cup championship series.

That group is led by first baseman Ryan O’Hearn, who hit 8 homers for Wilmington after joining the team in July last year.  O’Hearn is also one of 5 players on the Blue Rocks ranked among the top 30 prospects in the Kansas City Royals minor league system.  The Rocks are a single-A affiliate of the reigning World Series champs.

One major change for Wilmington is at manager – where Jamie Quirk takes over Brian Buchanan.  Quirk is the 14th manager in the team’s 24 year history.

The Blue Rocks open the 2016 campaign at home Thursday night – entertaining Potomac at 6:35.
