UD men's soccer team suffers second straight loss

The nationally ranked University of Delaware men’s soccer team comes home empty-handed from its trip west.

After suffering their first setback of the season Friday night against #15 Cal - the 11th ranked Blue Hens lost again Sunday, edged by #24 Stanford 2-1.

Corey Baird’s goal in the 65th minute for Stanford proved to be the difference in the contest. Eric Verso also scored for the Cardinal.

Ben Asante scored the lone goal for the Hens, who outshot Stanford 14-13

"That is a completely devastated dressing room right now,” said UD head coach Ian Hennessy. “When you go on the road against two Top 25 teams, score 3 goals and have your nose ahead on just about every statistical category, you expect more than what we got.”

UD, now 6-2, looks to rebound Wednesday when it visits Temple in Philadelphia.
