The University of Delaware men’s soccer team opens its run in NCAA Division I tournament Thursday night.
The Blue Hens earned an at-large bid to the 48-team field earlier this week and will host St. John’s in a first round contest.
It’s first time in over 40 years UD has host a men’s soccer tournament game in Newark. The last time was way back in 1970.
The Hens were last in the tourney two years ago, upsetting Virginia on the road before falling at top-seed UCLA.
Delaware was 14-4-1 during the regular season, including a 9-2 record at home. Saint John’s went 10-6-2 in the highly competitive Big East, which sent seven teams to the tournament.
The winner of tonight’s contest will face Virginia at Virginia in the second round Saturday.
