Indian River School District seeks input on Race to the Top grant proposal

Indian River School District is seeking public comment this week on its effort to secure funds in the latest federal Race to the Top competition.

Indian River is partnering with Brandywine, Colonial, and New Castle County Vo-Tech school districts in crafting a proposal to obtain between 30 and 40 million dollars as part of the Race to the Top District competition.

The funds would be used to update technology used by the schools in those districts.

The public can review the plan at 7 P-M Thursday at Millsboro Middle School, or at 7 P-M next Tuesday at Sussex Central High School.

Districts expect to learn whether they receive the grant in December.

Seaford and Cape Henlopen district officials also previously indicated an interest in competing in this round of funding, seeking up to 10 million dollars each.

Delaware won 119 million dollars in the first round of Race to the Top competition in 2010. The state also received 50 million dollars in the Race to the Top "Early Learning Challenge” last December
