A recent Sussex Tech graduate is spending part of her summer helping the state develop plans for reopening schools this fall amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Emma Brower graduated from Sussex Tech last week and plans to start the nursing program at Del Tech this fall.
Before that though, she’s serving on the Department of Education’s Health and Wellness school reopening working group.
“My health profession teacher Nancy Massaro from Sussex Tech actually chose me to be the student rep on the reopening committee,”said Brower.
Brower explains what that role entails.
“I will contribute to the logistics of what a normal school day may look like come fall, whether the spread of COVID-19 be deemed minimal or moderate - specifically the health and wellness aspects of what the new normal school day will look like," Brower said.
The Health and Wellness reopening group has met every Tuesday night for the past three weeks.
Group members are discussing possible scenarios for reopening of schools that could include things like the flow of how students walk in hallways, class sizes kept to 20 students or less and desks separated by six feet.
It’s one of three working groups that will make final recommendations to the Delaware Department of Education in July.
